Not ok, Boomer

It's almost time for tens of millions of Boomers to retire. In an event being called "The Great Retirement," the youngest Boomers will turn 65 by 2030, which is right around the corner.

I know, #notallboomers, but the facts are that the management style Boomers have perpetuated is hierarchical, rule-based, and reliant on in-person or even (ugh) phone communication. They favor loyalty and commitment, but the corporate world doesn't give that back anymore. We can thank old-school Boomer management for strong-arming employees back to the office, instead of treating us with respect and consideration.

These managers are the ones gaslighting employees about the realities of a distributed workforce that still needs to Zoom into most meetings, regardless of whether someone is “the” office or not.

I love how Cruze gets right to the heart of the different management styles by generation:

I don't usually take on different personas in my socials, but I did talk about the Great Retirement recently, and it's clear from the comments that people are ready for change

The youngest of Boomers will reach the age of 65 by 2030. This is a rallying cry to take full advantage of the transfer of leadership that has already begun and will peak in just seven years, hopefully ending the Boomer era of ruling employees through fear, intimidation, and lack of consideration for the workers below the executive suite.

We need leaders who are ready to take the reins and do it differently, through empowering and supporting team members instead.
